Ranch Roping

Ranch Roping

No matter if you are looking to practice dallying, throw a Houlihan, Del Viento, or a Triple Salchow (no wait that's figure skating), Ranch Roping at the Cochrane Roping Club is an ideal, relaxed way to start roping or try something new!

What is Ranch Roping?

Ranch Roping is much slower than team roping as the cattle are allowed to wander in the entire arena and all the roping is done at a walk.

Once a head loop is on the yearling, it is walked into an open area of the arena and other members practice their heel shots.

Once an animal has been headed and heeled, a third member will dismount, place the ropes on both back feet, remove the head loop, and place it on the front feet. After the ground crew has remounted, the animal is released and the process repeats with the next set of ropers. This allows for the safety of horses, cattle, and all riders.

Who is Ranch Roping for?

Ranch Roping is ideal for all members who are looking for a slower way to practice roping. If you want to practice dallying, work a young horse or practice for a big loop competition, try Ranch Roping.

Each night we rotate through all the ropers, so that everyone has an opportunity to practice.

When is Ranch Roping?

Ranch Roping is held on specific nights starting in May through to the end of the season. Check out the Events Calendar for more details and special nights.
